JB said she knew the shooters and why. |
Blantyre-Malawi.
Exactly 3 weeks after the Office of the president and Cabinet in Malawi released a press statement and a public revelation that President Joyce Banda knew who and why the Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance in Malawi Mr. Paul Mphwiyo was shot on 13th September, 2013. It was just like a drama on 9th October ,2013 when the story took a new twist with the state president Joyce Banda denying having knowledge of the shooters during a press briefing which took place at Sanjika Palace upon her arrival from a 22 days visit outside the country.
Responding to a question raised by Pilirani Phiri-one of the Journalist for a local Private owned radio station Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) .The state president openly denied having known the shooters of the Budget Director at all cost amid a somber mood which had locked this loyal house. In her “Chichewa” response the president alleged,”sindikudziwa amene adaombera abambo Mphwiyo ndipo ndichikhala ndikuwadziwa ndikanawatchula maina”-(I have never known who shot the Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo and if I had know them I could have disclosed the names to the police/public).
The president denial has surprised the nation as Malawians were eager to know who these criminals were upon her return from the USA owing to the public speech she made during the Muslim IJTMA. The president has also denied having been in Texas Hospitals as speculated in the media as well as having visited Paul Mphwiyo but admitted that she went to visit one of her Cabinet member Eunice Kazembe who is also sick and currently in South Africa.
Joyce Banda has assured Malawians that all the people regardless of their status will be dealt with as regards to the capital Hill financial mismanagement. The president is yet to meet her cabinet on the briefing on what is currently going in the country on 10th October, 2013 a day which has also been set for demonstration against her government by concerned Malawians owing to the corrupt practices, high cost of living, and breach of public trust among civil servants among others.
