WE ARE NOT ALL POLITICIANS BUT WE HAVE A SAY.

Reacting to a number of online entries [political in nature] that I have authored, a flood of questions have come my way. Though numerous as they are, the questions seem to revolve around a common pivot: “am I a politician or an aspiring politician?” Well, this entry seeks to register a number of statements reflecting my position in the political world.

I am NOT a politician per se NEITHER am I a political contrivance, let alone harboring any political ambitions-at least not now. I am simply a citizen who is affected by the political environment hence my intuition tells me that sitting quietly and suffer in silence isn’t a plausible option at all. It is extended to be a manifestation of cowardice and lack of proper responsibility. This string of clairvoyance hooks and pulls me from my inert citizenry to a reactive one. Curtsy of the hard-earned freedom, along which freedom of expression exists, I speak and register my say.

In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics', but that shouldn’t necessarily means something else other than helping securing a conducive environment. All issues are political issues, and Malawi politics itself has been wrongly executed by our politicians. They have intoxicated it [politics] in a mass of mendacities, deception, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia. Their ‘political’ language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind. One of the interesting things here is that the people who should be shaping the future are politicians. But the political framework itself is so dead and closed such that the involvement of every citizen in checking our political system is now more than a necessary thing.

As a result of a calm and sober assessment of the political situation that had arisen after many years of oppression, tyranny, exploitation, arrogance, on Malawians and recently, lack of vision for Malawi by the colonialists, MCP, UDF, DPP and PP respectively, I have dedicated the remaining fraction of my life span to revolution of change until such a time the wishes, concerns and outcries of all Malawians shall be embraced. I do not plan this in a spirit of recklessness, sabotage nor because I have any love of violence-NO! But it is in realization that, even when the majority rules [as a democratic notion], the remaining minority’s rights, interest, and aspirations should also be taken care of.

Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and guess what-the smallest minority on earth is the individual), so this should entail persistent checks on any governing system. Freedom and justice cannot be parceled out in pieces to suit political convenience. I don't believe you can stand for freedom for one group of people and deny it to others.

I will not bother my readers excavating the successes and failures of the previous four administrations [namely: Colonialism; MCP; UDF; DPP]. I will only bother providing you [my dear readers] with an account pertaining to the incumbent administration from both positive and negative perception.

POSITIVES:
Most Malawians are thankful to the PP-led government for arresting the fuel shortage. Citizens in this country are also thankful to this government for stabilizing forex availability on money markets. Some targeted Malawians are also appreciative for the Mudzi Transformation Trust initiative by this government. As Malawians, we are thankful to the selling of the “unnecessary jet, which was purchased by the previous government at the expense of vital economic engagements. Malawians are also gratified that this government has taken a leaf out of the demise that befell Malawians on July 20, 2011. Malawians are hopeful then that there will never be shooting of demonstrators again and that those who speak against this government will never be silenced. This is where I am drawing the courage to freely register my worries, views and concerns.

NEGATIVES:
Malawians are bitter with this government for the prevalence of hunger in the country. What embitters Malawians most is the fact that barely two years ago, there was plenty of food in this country. Malawians are not happy with the corruption which is most prevalent than ever in history. The corruption is taking all forms including nepotism, bribes, and many more. The awarding of government contracts; appointments in public offices; and many more are all nepotism-driven. The massive leakage of MSCE Examinations in various police and other outlets are a product of corruption. My quick assessment therefore in this regard is that during these two years, corruption has been worse. Malawians are not showing their teeth amidst the security bleach. Burglary and killings are robbing Malawians of their peace, which once reigned. It is out of this furry that within these two years, Malawi has registered more than 5 serious mob justice records where suspected muggers were burnt alive.
