RE: TIME TO PUT OUR LEADERS TO TASK AS ELECTIONS DRAW CLOSER-ARE OUR LEADERS SERVING FOR THE COMMON GOOD OF MALAWIANS OR FOR THEIR PERSONAL GAINS, POLITICAL AMBITIONS AND SELF ENRICHMENT.
Date: 1st September, 2013.
Dear Fellow Malawians,
First and foremost, forgive me for not having time to greet you all. Whereever you are in the 29 districts of Malawi from Nsanje to Chitipa, Mchinji to Likoma, just feel that I recognise your presence as a royal and obidient citizen of the mother Malawi- The warm heart of Africa. I will not bother to ask how each one of you is doing for I surely know what you are going through and the economic affliction we are all in as a nation among the numerous challenges Malawi is facing today.
By the way, since Malawi attained its democracy in 1994, there has been something common among our leaders which has forced me to write to you brethren. Malawi has a breed of leaders we can’t trust and self centered. The leader who don’t care for the rural mass and at point act like kids, the leaders who before ascending to thehighest office act like saints yet when in power they are cunning lions .Leaders who are good at using and disposing Malawians for their own good and not that of the entire nation.
As the count down timer continues ticking towards the 2014 tripartite elections, let me be clear with each one of you reading this letter. It is time to think back and forth before making any bold decision of who we are to entrust when it comes to running the country next year and time to come. Allow me to be very much clear, none of these leaders busy politicking now is an angel. They only want to use you to get to the state residents and once there they will be done with you. Your efforts for a better Malawi ends there, as you no more influence the desion making or having a voice that can be heard.
Looking at the Malawi we are having today in terms of leadership, there is nothing more sort of change with our leaders. For sure we simply have the same old crooks, murderers, oppressors, abusers, bribers, corrupters, liars and dictators. This nature of leaders has contributed much to low level infrastucture and economic development of Malawi. Our country is bound in economic slavery, perpetuated donor reliance owing to these leaders. Without taking a through scrutiny on this, Malawi will ever be like this until the end of the world.
Just for a second, take some time to reflect on the Malawi we have had since becoming a sovereign state to the present. There is something even more interesting when it comes to the blame game by these leaders of ours. They keep on pointing fingers at each other when the sure they are the same people who have sunk this country so low.Are you aware that the leaders we are having today are the same leaders that we have had since 1994? The only thing which is changing in them is the party cloth they are wearing to govern Malawi today!
Yes, some of these ministers serving the Peoples Party Admnistration of Joyce Banda have been in government since the dawn of multiparty democracy. They served 10 years of Bakili Muluzi with UDF, 8 years of Bingu Wa Muthalika with DPP and now with Joyce Banda and her PP’s 2 years yet they climb on a hill top pointing fingers at MCP,UDF and DPP as if they are innocent when they themselves are to blame for letting down the country especially economically. These are the people who we call leaders that have contributed greatly to your failure to own your own house, failure to own a dream car, failure to have a better school for your children, failure to afford delicious meal, failure to afford the best medical services in hospitals, failure to have a good road networks, failure to provide you with better communication infrastruture, your economic slavery and above all fooling you with promises that never ended to become a reality for the past 18 years when they themselves have what they want while you lavish with extreme poverty(kutuwa mbuu).
It’s very unfortunate, my fellow Malawians. Take time to leave politics aside and reflect your past as an individual, family or society .It is pathetic today that Malawians still traveling in the same old bumpy roads, our children continuing to learn under trees, rural Malawians having no access to medical services, 80 % of Malawians drinking water from rivers/springs,sleeping in slums, having no drugs in hospitals, our country stricken by hunger, access to electricity in rural areas remaining a challenge, poor communication systems and unemproved social services, civil servants welfare and lowered education standard. The major blow towards development of Malawi is owed to these leaders who are not only disrespect of rule of law but also thinking of making of their stomaches and pockets full when Malawians who ushered them into power are far behind them.
Fellow Malawians, there is something very wrong with us, despite that we really know how abusive, corrupt and greedy these leaders are. Today we are busy clapping hands at them and their numerous failures before thinking of the future of our country, our brothers, sisters, parents and more importantly our children who will determine the future of tommorrow. Trade carefully, these leaders are now acting like angels to fool you, trying to entice you with scones, stones that will turn nothing at the end, a bag of fertilizer that will last for just the growing season, a bag of maize that you will eat, digest, ,egest and lets you forget. 1 cow per 1 million population that won’t bring food to table, school fees or security to you. This is not genuine. This is total brainwashing! They are only trying to use you for the next year’s elections as hooks and later dump you once they excel with their motive.
Before I lay my pen down, I don’t have much time for this or to speak again to you but the assignment I am giving each one of you regardless of a political party you are in, ethinicity, region or political ideologies but with one heart and common sense is to hold these leaders accountable. Each one of you must find time to ask him or herself this simple question. Are our leaders serving for the common good of Malawians or for their personal gains, political ambitions and self-enrichment? Time is up for our leaders to continue fooling and misusing Malawians.Open your eyes and stand for your country.
Lastly, I wish you all the best and continue being good citizens. A better Malawi is possible only with leaders who care for Malawians and not politicking-self centered leaders as these one who can move 24/7 across the country laying stones to people who are hungry or trot the global just to have pictures and lies when the people’s lives and cost of living in their country continue to deteriorate. Be mindful that if you are not careful enough, you are letting your own country down and preparing a bad Malawi for your sons, daughters and grand children.
Long Live Mother Malawi.
Yours faithfully,
Magede Si Wandale
(A bonafide Malawian) 1st September 2013.
